My commitment game is strong with an impressive collection of relationships lasting from 18 months to 10 years. But is there a different way of approaching commitment without measuring relationship length?
With my monogamous relationships, I passed all the usual societal markers that supposedly demonstrate what a “serious” relationship looks like. Falling in love, moving in together, blending finances, having children (furry/human), making them my plus-one at parties. Author Amy Gahran calls this the “relationship escalator” and encourages us to ignore the societal markers and define our own version of a committed relationship.
