WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU JUST DON’T HAVE SEXUAL CHEMISTRY? GEORGIA BUTLER SHARES HER STORY

GEORGIA BUTLER is a UK-based writer who owns too many beanies and not enough cats. @gingergeorgia butler

I noticed her months before we met. At first, in the background of photos with mutual friends, later in brief eye contact on the train. She always reminded me of honey. That sweet, earthy taste was in the colour of her skin, the smell of her hair. It was on her lips and in every breath.

We met at an LGBTQI+ night at a local bar and, given my own status as a lightweight and the bottle of wine I had consumed, I was intoxicated. A blood test would have revealed I was type-Sauvignon-Blanc. My relationship with my current girlfriend was… ajar, and I took full advantage of this in my glass-cased confidence. I walked up to Honey (as she will now be referred to) and told her she was beautiful. And I meant it, I really did.

The months passed, and me and my girlfriend split up. It was amicable if sad, as these things always are. And, by divine timing, Honey sent me a friend request on Facebook. After sending messages back and forth for a couple of weeks, I drove an hour and a half from my hometown to hers and took her out on our first date.
