Matthew Waterhouse is returning to for three new stories as the young mathematical genius, Adric, in Big Finish’s main range of Doctor Whoaudio adventures.
Reunited with Peter Davison (the Fifth Doctor), Janet Fielding (Tegan), and Sarah Sutton (Nyssa), it’s the first time Matthew has played the role since last year’s Scribe Award-winning Doctor Who – The Fifth Doctor Box Set.
Matthew, who first played the role in the 1980 story Full Circle, tells DWM, “I took a long time to get around to the idea of doing Doctor Who audios – thought they might not be as good – but now I just absolutely love it. I think the character is beautifully written. Everything we’re doing at Big Finish is stuff that’s already in the character, in the stories – they’re just being extended a bit. Peter, Janet, Sarah and I have this wonderful bantering, sometimes acidic relationship which I really like, and it’s hugely pleasurable and exciting to do. Having initially said I didn’t want to do them, I now think, ‘when is the next one going to arrive?’ This is proper Doctor Who – they’re really carefully written, they’re witty and funny, and they’re highly inventive.”
