Some advice for anyone planning to unveil a new game at one of these showcases: unless there is something world-shatteringly unusual about the story you’re telling, do not waste your debut on a bland cinematic. When Stormgate arrives during a run of lifeless short films during Summer Game Fest, its mash of science-fiction and fantasy tropes is almost enough to make us reconsider our excitement about the prospect of a new RTS from ex-Blizzard talent. But let’s try to talk ourselves back into it again: Stormgate promises to be a robust free-to-play strategy game, built in Unreal 5, that offers a co-op campaign, assorted competitive options and built-in esports support, from a respectable number of the Starcraft 2 team and at least one Warcraft 3 veteran. Now that’s the kind of thing that might be worth getting excited about.
