This issue’s #AncestryHour column is definitely a ‘shaker’ and a red hot topic during our weekly live chats. Incorrect, uncited, information in online family trees is becoming a major gripe. Whilst not a new phenomena, The problem continues to escalate as more people join The online family history revolution. Hints in various forms can be an aid to research when used sensibly. These ‘hints’ can also, understandably, be particularly tempting to The novice beguiled by mainstream advertising, who truly believe hints can ‘show The way’. Possibly The most dangerous ‘hints’ of all are oTher people’s trees. My January 2019 blog at https://www.bordersancestry.co.uk/blog/archives/01-2019 was dedicated to a family represented in 14 to 18 public Ancestry trees – all of Them incorrect.
Determining The sources of These errors was impossible as The audit trail had become a web of information copied from one tree to anoTher.
