Flora International  |  Spring 23
SPRING IS ON ITS WAY and we have features on both tulips and Ranunculus, which I hope you will enjoy.
The article Analysis of Beauty – Hogarth’s Perfect Proportions (page 37) has caused me the most concern in my 20+ years as a magazine editor. My friend June, who volunteers at Hogarth’s House in Chiswick, suggested an article on the newly-designed gardens. These include features demonstrating Hogarth’s Line of Beauty, which is one of two ways to assess good proportions. The other, the Fibonacci concept, I find hard to relate to flower design, so I’ve built on June’s idea and asked prestigious florists, flower designers and an architect for their thoughts. I’d love to hear what readers of Flora think. The subject fascinates me.
Many of you enjoy working with alternative mechanics to keep your stems in place and Sarah Hills-Ingyon suggests a whole host to add to your repertoire on page 20. Do share with us any additional mechanics with which you’ve had success. The range of other fascinating articles extends from a Gucci scarf called Flora linked to a Boticelli painting, a stunning Harry Potter floral exhibit at Lincoln Cathedral and the impact a bug hotel can have on biodiversity!
