During this season of excess and indulgence, it’s nice to find out that something as pleasurable as a bath has untold benefits for wellbeing.
Yes, a long hot soak can be calming and comforting; it can loosen your muscles, lift your mood or set you up for a peaceful sleep. But in addition, warm water (around 38ºC) helps reduce your blood pressure, while a hotter bath (42ºC or higher) boosts blood flow. One study even suggests that a hot bath can use up as many calories as a 30-minute walk.
