BUILDING ON AN UNLIKELY PLOT
One of the best things about working on HB&R is seeing all of the wonderful, inspirational projects that come in. Reading each homeowner’s very personal story as to how they built their own home is fascinating. One thing that I’m always interested in is ‘how did they find that plot?’. So I read Ken Dijkman’s piece ‘How to gain approval on unlikely sites’ (page 122) with real interest. The planning goalposts are forever moving, so it pays to keep up with the changes to give yourself a head start on what sites might be applicable for self-build development. They aren’t always obvious if you don’t know your stuff! Ken gives some great advice with some interesting case studies to inspire you to think laterally and creatively. It’s a great piece if you’re on the lookout for a perfect plot.
