A Sandie Robertson

A knock to your confidence can manifest itself in lots of different areas. More often than not, you won’t feel the effects how you expect and that’s because the event itself actually may not have been a big deal at the time. However, the consequences and the thoughts you have about it afterwards are. It sounds like what’s happening here is actually a breakdown of trust between you and your horse and, like any relationship, that needs to be rebuilt.
As you move forward, don’t overface yourself. Doing things you’re terrified of reinforces a lack of confidence and trust. Instead, do things together that you feel comfortable with. Spend time together grooming, bathing, cuddling and enjoying eachother’s company. Take deep breaths while doing this to help you relax. Groundwork training can be incredibly beneficial, too. There’s lots of free content out there and being able to read and understand each other is a recipe for long-term success.
