Glossary
The place to come for key terms made easy
Accessibility
This refers to a group of settings on Mac and iOS that allow you to customise your device to suit your needs. There are settings that relate to physical and motor impairments as well as hearing or sight problems. Go to Settings or System Preferences to find them.
Firmware
This is a small piece of software that makes the bigger hardware work as intended. For example, it is firmware that makes traffic lights change colours at regular intervals and, in Mac terms, firmware is what tells your computer to perform certain tasks.
PersonalHotspot
This refers to using your iPhone’s mobile data to provide a temporary internet connection for your other devices, such as a MacBook. You can connect to a personal hotspot using Wi-Fi, Bluetooth or USB. Be warned, it eats battery life, as well as mobile data.
I have heard that I can use my iPhone as a means of providing internet for my Mac - how is this done?
