As a result of the Epic vs Apple lawsuit over the conditions of Apple’s App Store, Apple has been forced to allow developers to point users to purchase opportunities outside of their app. Aside from this, the result of the lawsuit appears to be a major win for Apple, since the judge ruled that Epic did not provide enough evidence to prove that Apple operated as a monopoly with its App Store. While the judge did not find a justification for Apple’s 30 per cent commission for in-app payments, it did not push Apple to change the current fees. Further, Epic Games were ordered to pay Apple six million dollars as compensation for a breach of contract that resulted in Fortnite being kicked off the App Store. Epic has already announced that it has filed an appeal that seeks to change the results of the lawsuit, so this isn’t over yet.
