First, the iPhone could recognise objects and scenes in photographs and we could search for ‘dog’ or ‘beach’. Then, we were given the ability to recognise text from in photos and copy and paste it into other apps. Now, we can read subsections of text from printed material and copy and paste them into apps.
A good example of this is creating shopping lists from printed recipes. If you have a cookbook or magazine with a recipe, you can point your phone at it and, in a tap, create a shopping list of ingredients. Here, we use Notes and recipes because it works best, but this is an iOS feature and it can be used in other apps.
