Welcome

It’s always good to hear from you, especially if we can help with art-related problems. This month’s features begin with our editorial consultant, Tim Fisher responding to a recent colour-mixing question from a regular Leisure Painter reader. Knowing the bias of your colours will go a long way to figuring out why some mixes appear muddy, says Tim, while others turn out vibrant. Tim’s advice is just the starting point. Spend time this month making your own colour charts and wheels, and learn from your experiments with colour. There’s more advice from our contributors this month, including Julie King who demonstrates how to produce the colours you’ll need to paint a sunny Tuscan scene in watercolour, and follow Rachel McNaughton as she paints a vibrant study of a kingfisher, while our cover artist, Mike Rollins, mixes the colours for a snow-laden scene with a jolly red tractor. We’re here to help you make the most of your time drawing and painting so don’t hesitate to email me with your questions – or your own tips, advice and suggestions to share with fellow readers – at leisurepainterletters@tapc.co.uk Leisure Painter is published for everyone, whether you’re just beginning to paint or you are a more experienced amateur – so no question is too basic. What better time to think about your next painting holiday or art course than the middle of winter? Look forward to warmer days ahead as you consider what’s on offer in the middle pages of this issue. We are delighted to be featuring some outstanding experiences from our holiday providers. And, finally, don’t forget we are more than a magazine. Turn to page 10 to find out how to receive our email newsletters, which feature more practical content, competitions and inspiration. Enjoy the month of painting ahead.
