Painting project

Part 2 Colin Joyce takes you step by step through the process of painting a stunning view of Scotland

Follow an easy watercolour process

How to paint the effect of water and trees

Practise the glazing technique

If you read last month’s article, you’ll recall I have been driving around part of the NC500 route in the Scottish Highlands. As well as enjoying the most magnificent scenery I’ve been collecting photographs and sketches to work into larger paintings. Last month I showed you my process of building up an idea from the photo (right) to thumbnails and sketches until I was happy this would produce a pleasing painting.

I hope you enjoy this project and it encourages you to explore Scotland. If you happen to see someone painting next to their motorhome, do say hello. It might be me!

The finished painting Loch Maree, watercolour on Saunders Waterford High White Rough watercolour paper, 15x22in. (38x56cm)
