Linus Torvalds announced the release of Linux 6.0, noting that it was “one of the bigger releases at least in numbers of commits in a while.”
The new kernel contains a number of key fixes and improvements for x86 (Intel and AMD) users. These include scheduler improvements for AMD Zen systems that are aware of its NUMA (Non-Uniform Memory Architecture) chiplet-induced characteristics, as well as initial support for new hardware added to AMD’s newly launched Zen4-based Ryzen 7000 desktop systems. Linux 6.0 also includes support for Intel’s upcoming 13th generation ‘Raptor Lake’ chips, including enhancements to the thermal management capabilities within the “Intel RCC offset cooling driver”.
