“I believe 2023 will be another year of transitions. Hopefully, the pandemic situation will continue to improve, but the fear of further global disruption remains. While I hope we don’t see a giant recession, everyone is being asked to do a bit more with fewer resources, and the squeeze is likely to continue. This manifested a little last year in the consolidation of various small open source outfits into larger companies. I suspect this will continue as everyone begins to plan for where to be when the music stops (if it stops). On a related note, I also would not be surprised if we hear more about the prospect of one or more significant retirements from the kernel and broader open source community (we’re not all spring chickens).
