MENORCA, SPAIN
The centuries-old Camí de Cavalls (Horse Road) runs in a 115-mile loop around the coast of the island of Menorca. Its one-time function may have been to give vantage points for lookouts against pirates and invading fleets, but today it is more appreciated by hikers, mountain bikers and indeed horse-riders, who follow its turns to tricky-to-reach headlands and sandy coves. For visitors to Menorca who want to explore this route in the traditional fashion, but who have not brought their own steed, Torralbenc is a former farm turned hotel offering guided horseback excursions from its whitewashed buildings. Early summer warmth has come to the island, but not yet such that you or your ‘cavall’ should work up a sweat.
