Carolina Dreamin’: MC Taylor relocated from his native California to be closer to the musical culture of the South

There are two reasons MC Taylor lives in Durham, North Carolina. One reason is simply that it’s the place he calls home, a “small progressive town” on the Piedmont, the area between the mountains and the coast. It’s the place where his children were born, where many of his friends live and where he owns a house. But as to how he first came to settle in Durham, that’s bound up, as is so much in Taylor’s life, with music.
“Having felt like I was so connected to the musical culture of the South when I was living in California, I realised that if I was going to get any deeper into it, if I was going to have a true and genuine understanding of it, I needed to live here,” he says, “otherwise I was just going to be a spectator.”
