It’s been about a decade since Apple first introduced AirDrop (see p42), a feature which provided a quick and easy way to wirelessly transfer files between Macs, back before iCloud and iCloud Drive allowed us to put all files and data online and access them with any device.
A few years later, macOS Yosemite and iOS 8 extended AirDrop to work with both Macs and iOS devices, and also introduced Handoff, a feature that enabled you to start writing a document on your Mac and then switch to an iPad to finish it off (or vice versa). AirDrop and Handoff were just the start of a range of features that Apple now refers to collectively as Continuity. And, over the last few years, Apple has further developed Continuity, adding in new features and extending its reach to include the iPhone, iPad and even the Apple Watch.
