Any keen photographers or video makers should be considering ways to fund a purchase of an iPhone 15 Pro Max! This flagship model boasts better quality images and more compositional choices than any other iPhone.
While the 15 Pro Max has the usual three cameras at the back and a fourth ‘selfie’ camera at the front, it actually boasts seven lenses. You have the 12MP Ultra Wide 0.5x lens on the back which has a focal length of 13mm, making it effective at capturing large buildings in their entirety. Then there’s the 48MP Main camera’s 1x (24mm) lens for everyday shots. The Main camera has additional optical 1.2x (28mm) and 1.5x (35mm) focal-length options, which you can toggle between by tapping on the Camera app’s 1x button. These new 1.2x and 1.5x prime lens options don’t make a huge difference to compositional choices, but there are dramatic improvements to the 12MP Telephoto camera…
In addition to the Telephoto’s 2x (48mm) zoom, we have a game-changing 5x zoom. This uses mirrors to bounce the light entering the Telephoto camera sideways (see p50) so that it can achieve a focal length of 120mm between the lens and the sensor. The resulting 5x optical zoom enables you to take close-ups of distant subjects, so you can capture detail on a building or shoot candid street photos without distracting people. Normally when shooting at a zoom of 120mm, you run the risk of a blurred shot because the camera amplifies camera shake at a longer focal length.
