In addition to creating a Recovery Contact, you can generate a Recovery Key that you have to enter if you forget your password.
THE INTRODUCTION OF Touch ID and Face ID means there is much less need for us to remember passcodes or passwords on Apple devices. But there are still occasions when you will need to rely on memory rather than biometrics. There are numerous occasions when Apple will ask you for your Apple ID password. If you can’t remember it, you can’t just ask Apple to reset it, and could find yourself locked out of your iCloud account. The good news is that you can prevent that happening by setting up an account recovery contact. When you do that and are locked out of a device, you can follow the instructions on screen and pass them to your contact who then uses them to generate a passcode. They give you the passcode, and that enables you to gain access to your device again. We’ll show you how to set that up. It’s worth noting that you and the Account Recovery contact must both be over 13.
