On the first day of 2024, if you’re running Windows 7 or 8, your Steam client will die. The reason cited is that it uses an embedded version of Chrome, and doesn’t support Win7 or 8. Steam could have worked around this, but it seems it wasn’t worth the effort. Win7 has proved remarkably sticky, holding onto ten percent of PC users for years. The end of the official security updates in February, however, was the final blow, and the number halved. Still, not bad for an OS launched in 2009.
