My Dying Bride’s Aaron
Stainthorpe still remembers
the lyrics after four years
IT’S A TESTAMENT to the two-day HRH Goth event – taking place in both London and the goths’ spiritual home, Leeds – that its line-up affirms the genre was never one monolithic entity, but rather a broad church regularly patching itself with updates, still with the capacity to tap into something timeless. From the poppy post-punk of IN ISOLATION through DEADFILMSTAR’s sleazy industrialism, like Ministry lurking in the shadows, to RED SUN REVIVAL’s wracked romanticism drawing from both Fields Of The Nephilim and the 80s ‘Big Music’ of bands like The Waterboys, there’s a whole sonic spectrum to wave your arms around to.
