Something of a ‘locomotive special’ this time! The clear and easy to follow construction series by Neil Wyatt continues as he makes wheels and axle assemblies for the little shunter, Southam. There’s more locomotive building with Terry Woodward’s Halstead and Terry Holland’s World War 1 Tank locomotives by Andrew Barclay. Lots more locomotives are photographed at Leyland’s LNER themed rally and there’s an explanation of the Trofimov piston valve as used in some, mainly European locomotives.
And if all that isn’t enough, we have Part 2 of the IMLEC report and more about Crewe’s master locomotive builder, Harry Powell.
For those who prefer their engines to remain where they are put and not move, Frank Cruickshank’s semi-diesel engine makes progress and Alan Pickering completes his unique hot air engine.
There’s a satisfyingly technical article about creating Shiny Knurls as Jacques Maurel cuts, rather than crushes the material and achieves some very neat results. He describes how.
And on the cover is a rather splendid London Transport bus, scratch built by Malcolm Hart who shares with us the secrets of his modelling techniques.
