The Nikon Z DX 50-250mm is a smart buy for mirrorless cameras but it’s of no use to you if you have a DSLR. A similarly compact and lightweight tele-zoom for DX format DSLRs is the Nikon AF-S DX 55-200mm f/4-5.6G ED VR II. The only problem is it’s been discontinued. That’s not an insurmountable hurdle, however, as the option of buying used camera kit is becoming increasingly popular. Like the Z DX 50-250mm, the older F-mount DX 55-200mm has a clever retractable design, so it takes up very little room when packed away – just 71x83mm when retracted and it weighs a mere 300g. Used examples in excellent condition start at around £150/$120.
With its compact design – it weighs in at just 71x83mm when retracted – the Nikon Z DX 55-250mm will have a secondhand appeal.
