From Sigma’s Sports line-up, this lens aims for all-out performance, with no concessions to compactness or lightweight handling. It’s nearly a kilogram heavier than the Contemporary edition, weighing in at 2860g. As with its lighter sibling, there’s a full range of dual autofocus modes, dual stabilization modes, a two-position autofocus range limiter switch and two custom modes. With these, you can alter autofocus speed, the amount of stabilization that’s visible in the viewfinder, and more besides. The zoom ring can be locked at any position that has a focal length marked on the barrel.
More robust than the Contemporary lens, this one has a metal barrel and hood, and is comprehensively weather-sealed.
In our tests, the Sigma Sports lens proved slightly sharper than the Contemporary edition but it’s almost a kilogram heavier.
