To create a photographic image, we expose a light sensitive substrate to a controlled amount of illumination. This used to be film, now it’s the sensor of our DSLR or Z-series camera. A good exposure is about making sure a balanced amount of light reaches the sensor for each image. The challenge is that light levels vary – and can often change unpredictably – unless you are shooting in a controlled studio environment.
You have three key controls on your camera to balance exposure, and it doesn’t matter if you have a D3500, Z 7II or D6.
