LOCHABER senior councillor Andrew Baxter, in his new role as chairman of Highland Council’s People Committee, has slammed proposed changes to the governance of schools as just adding to the bureaucratic burdens already weighing on head teachers, saying they will do nothing to improve the education of local children.
In letters to teachers and parents across the region, co-written with the depute leader of Highland Council, Councillor Alasdair Christie, Mr Baxter, Independent councillor for Fort William and Ardnamurchan, has urged them to get involved in the Scottish Government’s consultation on the provisions of the Education (Scotland) Bill.
To teachers, the two men outline Highland Council’s concerns to the sweeping changes proposed to the way schools are managed and governed. ‘This matter is of the greatest importance to Highland’s children.
