THE Oban, Lorn and the Isles Area Committee granted more than £8,500 to third sector organisations in August but councillors have raised fears over the future of the annual fund.
Argyll and Bute Council’s third sector grant budget allocated a total of £31,500 to the Oban, Lorn and the Isles Area Committee to distribute to causes over 2016/17. Applications are considered twice yearly, in April and August, and the committee had £8,696 left to grant at its meeting last month.
Within the nine applications received, the area’s six councillors decided to give Argyll District Scouting £388 for a September activity weekend, and £598 to Atlantis Leisure for its tennis court opening event. A further £500 was granted to Lismore Historical Society for a community open day, and £240 was given to the Argyll choir Coisir Ghaidhlig Tigh an Uillt to attend this year’s Mod in Stornoway.
