SEA DONKEY
It’s dark. Adrian Sarchet is stripped to his trunks, bobbing on a small boat in the Irish Sea, while his brother ladles on a bucket full of channel grease. He’s about to take on the North Channel, reputedly one of the toughest recognised marathon swims in the world, but how did he get to this point, and will his swim be successful?
Sea Donkey tracks how Adrian Sarchet transformed himself from an overweight deskbound lawyer to a serious marathon swimmer. It starts with his older brother challenging him to swim from Guernsey to the island of Herm – a distance of three miles.
After that he went on to swim around Guernsey (24 miles) followed by the English Channel, which he said left him “busted and bruised, both mentally and physically.” Training for the English Channel had consumed two years of his life. When it was done, he faced a void.
