TP-7 FIELD RECORDER
I’ve no idea why I still own and use an old dictaphone to record notes for myself, musical or otherwise. Smartphones can do everything dictaphones can and plenty more – but there’s something about the simplicity of the object that compels me to keep using it (and it’s never let me down, which is more than can be said for my smartphone). That’s the thinking behind the TP-7, Teenage Engineering’s cute-but-pricey field recorder (£1,299, would you believe?). It’s billed as a zerofriction gadget for getting ideas down quickly and simply: just press record and go, while a simulated tape reel gently revolves, presumably to reassure you that it’s working.
