In 2014, Sid Smith spoke to Alan White to look back upon the making of Relayer. White, who died in 2022, revealed why he thought the record was special and why it was one of his favourite Yes albums.

“After Rick Wakeman left we started working as a four-piece and got the flow going. We spent a long time rehearsing getting the basic ideas for Relayer in place before going in the studio. That was one of the albums where there was a lot of spontaneous stuff happening in the studio with a lot of things coming to fruition really quickly.
