If Lankum do little else in their career, they’ve snatched folk-rooted music back from the very hands that caused the suffering at the heart of much of their material. After all, few things are as ironic as the privileged usurping the age-old communication method of the common people and the oppressed. Yet for all that, the Irish collective are no mere finger-in-the-ear merchants (though it serves them well on some of their more delicate and potent moments). Rooted firmly in the musical origins of their ancestors and maintaining their traditions, Lankum bolster their sound with formidable electronics, penetrating percussion and an acute awareness of the world around them.
