PASSWORD MANAGERS
Still using the same password across a bunch of websites? And a rubbish one at that? Craig Grannell explains why you should shake things up with some robotic assistance…
THE BASICS
■ Use better passwords
A big reason to use a manager is to ensure your passwords are better. You can create new ones that are essentially unbreakable, and fiddle around with the password ‘recipe’ to cater for sites with specific requirements. Also, when you input existing passwords, ones that are deemed weak will be flagged up accordingly.
■ Mix it up a bit
We still hear from people who blithely use the same password across a number of internet services. This is a terrible idea, because if a bot or human breaks into one of your accounts, that breach may cascade across them all. Password managers always serve up something unique, avoiding predictable patterns.
