Welcome to The View Magazine 12: Women Versus The State
What happens when women confront the oppressive forces of state power? The View Issue 12 boldly explores the intersection of justice, trauma, and resilience in a world where systemic failures continue to marginalize women.
This edition illuminates the lives of women who endure unimaginable hardships and still find strength to resist. From prisons to conflict zones, their stories are not only a testament to their courage but also a call for action.
Inside This Issue
We begin with Caged by Cancer, a harrowing account of Farah Damji’s fight against an aggressive illness while imprisoned. Her story highlights the injustice of denied medical care and the inhumanity faced by women in the justice system.
Women Behind Bars provides a chilling look into the lives of incarcerated women, exposing the emotional and physical toll of inadequate healthcare, unsanitary conditions, and systemic neglect.
Moving beyond prison walls, Women Under Fire shares the resilience of Palestinian women living under occupation, witnessing the destruction of their homes and families, and enduring unimaginable loss.
In Redesigning Justice, we tackle the urgent need for sentencing reform, questioning whether prison is a solution or a punishment that compounds inequality.
Stories of Resistance and Hope
Yet, this issue also celebrates the defiance and creativity of women:
The Subversive Stitcher showcases embroidery as a form of activism and storytelling.
Daughters for the Earth highlights grassroots movements driven by women to heal communities and the planet.
The View Magazine is more than a publication—it’s a platform for change. This issue is a powerful reminder that resilience can inspire transformation and that every story shared brings us closer to justice.
Join us as we shine a light on the lives of extraordinary women and the systems that must be reformed.
