In 1998 Kimi Raikkonen joined the team of Peter de Bruijn who at the time was racing with Gillard made-in-England karts. It turned out to be a good choice that achieved an immediate success crowned by the second place in the European Formula Super A championship. It was the year in which the competitors presented a firm protest against the President E. Buser for the use of the Pacecar at race start. A complication, especially with a wet track, which seriously affected the drivers’ safety. The Tony Kart / Kosmic team drivers did not join the boycott, the only ones to take to the grid for race 2. A boycott that jeopardized Raikkonen’s chance to aim for the top of the standings.
