September’s British Athletics Championships in Manchester showcased some of the UK’s most exceptional athletes, with 22-year-old Imani- Lara Lansiquot claiming her first British title and Paralympic champion Hannah Cockroft storming her way to a 400m wheelchair win.
Lansiquot, who is already the fourth fastest woman in British history, took on some strong competition from Kristal Awuah and teenage talent Amy Hunt to take the 100m title, breaking away in the final 20m to cross the finish line in 11.26 seconds.
Five-time Paralympic champion Cockrft claimed a clear victory in the women’s wheelchair 400m with a time of 60.19 seconds. She faced a tough competitor in Sammi Kinghorn, but broke away to take a strong lead in the final stretch.
In the 400m, Laviai Nielson also stormed to victory, showing lockdown hasn’t affected her training and Laura Weightman easily became British Champion in the 1500m. There were also strong performances from Aimee Pratt in the 3,000m steeplechase, and by Jessie Knight in the 400m hurdles.
