Settling into a new house has proven unsettling for one of our writers, but Jane Wenham-Jones is on hand to advise
Three months ago, difficult family circumstances compelled me to move from a small village to the outskirts of a town and I am finding it almost impossible to write in my new home. Although the new house is pleasant and comfortable and I am sitting at the same desk in a room very similarly laid out to the way it was at our previous address, it just doesn’t feel ‘right’ somehow. The view from the window isn’t as pretty or inspiring, the sounds outside are different, and feeble as it sounds, I just can’t seem to get any words down. Or not any worth keeping. I have never had any sort of writer’s block before but now I feel totally uncreative and it is making me miserable and frustrated. Especially as I had started a novel I was so pleased with. I wrote in all my spare minutes in my old house. How can I get going again in this one?
