INTRODUCTIONS
Writing Magazine presents a selection of current submission calls from literary publishers. We strongly recommend that you read back issues, familiarise yourself with their guidelines before submitting and check websites for submission details.
The Fiction Desk currently has two calls for submission this winter. The first is a call for general submissions, and there is also a themed call for stories about books. Submit original, unpublished short fiction on any subject for the general call. The books call invites realist and speculative fiction about books and the role they play in our lives. Submit fiction between 1,000 and 20,000 words. Most of the stories published by The Fiction Desk are between 2,000 and 7,000 words. Selected stories will be published in a Fiction Desk anthology. Payment is £25 per 1,000 words. The deadline for the general and the ‘book’ call is 31 January 2022.
