When travel writing comments on or offers any sort of advice to travellers, particularly in a holiday context, one thing ripe for consideration is children. It was the US actor and humorist Robert Benchley who said: There are two classes of travel: first class and with children. And, without wishing to be down on children (I have two), they can present a problem both to the parents and to other travellers.
The ability, or indeed inclination, of parents to control their children seems to have declined over the years. For example, however carefully you research to find the right airline, fare, timing and seat, however much you pay, the close proximity of an unruly child can turn what might be a relaxing prelude to a holiday into several hours of hell. Enough said; I will resist a rant, though you may see horror stories as an opportunity. Of course, it is not easy for parents either. Consider the amount of kit you must travel with if you travel with children, and that’s just the start of it. Nevertheless, such kit may be something to write about.
