I Used My Love of Rich Texture and Colour to Decorate Our Home

Textile artist, Saffron Harper Gow, has transformed an ordinary modern flat into an abundance of colour, light and texture

‘It was designing for our first home that led me to create fabrics and wallpapers that were rich in texture, colour and character,’ says Saffron Harper Gow, owner and designer at Crocus Designs.

After studying an MA in Textile Design in Birmingham, Saffron moved to London to do a course in Interior Architecture, thinking her interest in houses would take her career down that route. However, on completion of her course, and after two years working for the upmarket French home furnishings company, Pierre Frey, Saffron realised that her real passion was indeed designing fabrics.

In London, Saffron met her boyfriend Nick, a fellow Scot, and when she decided to set up her own studio, they upped sticks and moved back to Scotland. ‘The timing was right. Nick was moving jobs and I was keen to set up my own business so we decided to buy a flat in Edinburgh and make it our home,’ says Saffron.

An oil painting of horses on silk, bought in Rajasthan for £4 hangs above the sofa, which is adorned with cushions from Crocus Design, Homer, and artist, Hatti Patisson. The foot stool is from Made, while the lamps are from George Pirie Antiques. The walls are painted in Palma Grey from Farrow & Ball. The director’s chair is from Habitat, while the tripod lamp is from Made
