WINE MASTERCLASS
Welcome to the world of wine with Madeline Puckette and Justin Hammack, the authors of Wine Folly, with their at-a-glance guide to Italian sparkling wines, and what to look for when choosing a wine
SPARKLING WINES MADE IN THE ‘TRADITIONAL METHOD’
Made using the same classic method as champagnes from the Champagne region of France, you’ll find these sparkling wines throughout Europe, including Italy where the finest examples are produced in the Franciacorta region of Lombardy and Trento in the Trentino-Alto Adige region of the Alps. Look for the words metodo classico to indicate this style of production.
PROSECCO
Italy’s most popular sparkling wine is created with Glera grapes grown in Veneto and Friuli-Venezia Giulia. The best Prosecco wines come from Valdobiaddene.
