SALFORD Red Devils marched into the quarter-finals of the Betfred Challenge Cup following a comprehensive second-half blitz of Widnes Vikings.
The Vikings named a much-changed team, including Shane Grady as a starting prop, Steve Tyrer in the second row and captain Jack Owens at loose forward, while handing debuts to young fullback Daniel Hill and former Salford prop Lee Jewitt.
For the Red Devils, Matthew Costello celebrated his Salford debut in style with two tries and an assist and former Toronto hooker Darcy Lussick impressed. He was on the field for around an hour, giving the hosts’ middle some real momentum.
Early on it was all Widnes. An energetic start saw Lewis Else break, only for the ball to be dislodged, while Deon Cross had a try disallowed in the seventh minute.
