FEW GAMES have summed up the craziness of this Super League season quite like this one.
Where to begin? After quarter of an hour here, it felt like there would only be one outcome. Wakefield blasted their way into an 18-0 lead, thoroughly deserved due to their own attacking precision and a woefully slow start from Huddersfield.
Then, Oliver Russell left the field due to a head knock and didn’t return, leaving Will Pryce as the only recognised halfback, with Sam Wood for support. Huddersfield’s hopes of a comeback rested firmly on the shoulders of two youngsters, one of whom isn’t even a half.
But somehow, against the odds, they managed to pull it off.
Yes, you could argue that a decent side - certainly one in a stronger position on the table than Wakefield find themselves in - would have put Huddersfield to bed during the opening half-hour, when they were way below par.
