PILKINGTON RECS, who went into the fixture third-from-bottom in the table, staged an upset with a 13-4 victory over leaders WATH BROW HORNETS.
The St Helens outfit are out of the drop-zone, albeit solely on points’ difference, through having the better of the second period after the Cumbrians had led 4-0 at the break, courtesy of a 28th minute try for Elison Holgate.
Hornets may well have expected to kick on from that position but Pilks, who had other ideas, went in front nine minutes after the resumption, Andy Morris powering over and Kyran Knapper adding the extras.
Owain Abel crossed five minutes later and, with nine minutes remaining, Abel fired a field-goal to stretch the lead to seven points. And there was certainly no way back for Wath Brow when Knapper booted a penalty in the closing seconds.
