LEAGUE ONE ROUND-UP
WHITEHAVEN coach Anthony Murray says he has enjoyed this year as much as any as he reflected on the work on and off the pitch at the club this season.
Having handed debuts to 24 Cumbrians this season, Whitehaven rounded off the season with a 28-20 win over champions North Wales Crusaders.
It was a really positive way to end the year, with the club’s decorated 2005 National League 1 winning team presented with their heritage numbers at the game, before the end of season presentation night.
Murray said: “It’s flown by this year. It’s my 13th year as a head coach and I think I’ve enjoyed this year as much as any. Putting a team together reliant on local players, 15 coming out of the community game, and it’s been a really good season on and off the field.
“My expectation was to get a team on the field that gives everything and works hard for the shirt. Fans needed to see a team that wanted to play for the club and each other.”
Now Whitehaven, like all of their League One counterparts, look ahead to a new era in the merged division.
