Paint along with LP
Your reference photograph: a garden in Kent
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
■ Produce and amend compositional sketches
■ Manipulate scenes to suit your purposes
■ Work from photograph to final tonal sketch
Following my introduction to painting parks and gardens in last month’s issue in which colour and techniques were explored, I now want to look at the importance of composition and prepare you for tackling a photograph of a garden. Whenever I have the opportunity to visit gardens, in villages, towns or cities, I always have my camera at hand, ready to capture a scene that inspires me and draws my eye in, one with interest, variety and a focal point.
