M ost distros nowadays feature a desktop search tool out of the box to help you quickly M find the files you’re looking for. This is incredibly useful with vast disk space and an everincreasing number of stored files and directories. But for CLI users, there have always been a few trusted tools to quickly fetch files. Chief among them is Find.
As the name implies, the Find utility strives to help you find files. What sets it apart? The ability to identify files based on more than just filenames. When looking up files, you can use a variety of parameters, such as name, approximate name, permissions, last modified, file type and so on, to quickly narrow down the file you’re looking for. You can also restrict results to directories, and even find files by matching the contents. All told, Find is one of the most rewarding tools to master for all who are fond of the CLI.
