MADFISH
With albums one and two using up the majority of Jim Morrison’s original lyrical and conceptual ideas, by third LP Waiting For The Sun, The Doors were running somewhat dry. It’s a diverse set, though, that has its moments. Hello, I Love You scarcely rewrites The Kinks’ All Day And All Of The Night, but is still a standout here, as is perky ballad Love Street. The Vietnam War impacts on the cinematic The Unknown Soldier and Five To One. Robby Krieger’s flamenco stylings on Spanish Caravan impress and Doors fans will revel in Not To Touch The Earth’s inclusion here, a partial segment of the ambitious multi-part Celebration Of The Lizard they struggled to nail in the studio that was originally intended to fill all of Side Two. In this boxset, a 180g version of the album comes with two CDs of rough mixes and live tracks recorded in Copenhagen. Steve Harnell
