Automations trigger compatible devices, such as these Nanoleaf lights.
W
hen you add a new smart
device to your home using HomeKit, you usually have two ways to use it…
Either by using the device’s dedicated app, or by using the Home app for iPhone, iPad and Mac. You can even control your devices using your Apple Watch or Apple TV 4K (third-gen or later) as well as, of course, by using Siri.
While automations are offered in many device-specific apps (see the Nanoleaf or Eve Home apps, for example), Apple’s Home app gives you the best overview of all the smart devices on your home network – and can even suggest some automations to you. You could choose to have smart lights automatically switch on at sunset, for instance. Or have them switch off when you leave home.
